The family farm passed to its new owners today. Summertime memories of walking barefoot down dusty paths, exploring in the woods on our bicycles, and watching my mother's sunflowers grow 10 feet tall in the garden, all of these things will not pass, however, from my thoughts.
The piano room and its shelves filled with her collections of literature textbooks and poetry is empty now. Only the echos of Whitman, Cummings, and Silverstein remain, and the song Fur Elise slips around the corners, windowsills and doorways, of my dreams.
